Jobst Compression Stockings and SocksBrief History

Conrad Jobst, a Mechanical Engineer and Inventor, founded JOBST in Toledo, Ohio in 1950. Suffering from Venous Disease, Conrad, with his varied expertise and wide experience committed himself in the development of gradient compression garments to relieve the symptoms of Venous Insufficiency. It was in the same year that Varitex (a company founded earlier than Jobst), was established in Germany and started to cooperate with professionals in Lymphology and Phlebology.

When Conrad died in 1957, his wife, Caroline Jobst took over and grew the business successfully. She was the one behind the expansion of Jobst product lines which virtually increased sales in every continent carrying its reputation of good quality. New product lines included Ready-t0-Wear Vascular Garments, Consumer Support Stockings, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Garments and Anti-Embolism Garments.

In 1990, Beiersdorf AG in Hamburg Germany acquired Jobst in Ohio, North Caroline, Thurles and Ireland. Beiersdorf AG also acquired Varitex in Germany. In 1996, Varitex was then renamed Jobst.

On April 2, 2001, Jobst became an affiliate company of BSN Medical Inc., a company owned by Beiersdorf, Smith and Nephew, thus how the name BSN-Jobst came about.

It was in February 2006 that BSN was acquired by Muntagu private Equity, a leading private equity investor in the European mid-market. Since then, the company has supported over 400 businesses all over the world.

Today, Jobst has two headquarters, one in Hamburg, Germany and one in North Carolina. They also have manufacturing sites in each headquarter located in Emmerich, Germany and Rutherford College, North Carolina respectively.
